Lotte van Drunen of the Beursfoon KTM Team had a sizzling outing to claim victory at the second round of the 65cc motocross European Championship selection rounds in Lommel, Belgium. She had to battle hard in both races to get her top results. In the first race she was a close second, but in the final heat she claimed victory, and therewith also the event honours.

Lotte was looking forward to the event but knew that she had a hard weekend ahead of her. She started off well with the fastest time in the free training session, and eventually posted the second fastest time in qualification training. After a good start in the qualifying heat she finished second, giving her confidence for Sunday’s races.

Lotte noticed during Sunday’s warm-up that the track had become very rough and technical. With her brother and trainer they worked on alternative lines and a  strategy for the races.

Lotte launched straight into second spot at the start of the opening race. She kept the leader under pressure, but some lappers cost her valuable time. Lotte finished second but was determined to do better in the second moto.

In scorching 26 degree temperatures the riders lined up for race two. Lotte had a perfect launch and shot into the lead. She was quickly passed, but kept the leader under constant pressure. With her second attempt she reclaimed the lead and rode to a popular victory.

With her near-home crowd ecstatic, Lotte ascended to the top step of the podium. With it being her first European Championship victory, it was a special moment.
