The Beursfoon KTM team has scored two podium positions with Scott Smulders and Kay de Wolf in the Dutch Open 85 round in Geldermalsen. Smulders took a moto win and finished second overall and de Wolf ended his day in third.
Milan Beijer started the day with the eight fastest time in time practice of the 65 big wheels class. In the opening moto he took the holeshot but unfortunately he was riding tied and lost several positions to finally finish in seventh place. In the second moto he took a decent start and came home in seventh place as well.
The pace was high in time practice of the 85 big wheels class and the difference between the riders was really small. Kay de Wolf took pole position while Scott Smulders was only 0.5 sec behind the first two riders and set the third fastest time. Sem Beijer struggled to find his rhythm and had to be satisfied with thirteenth place.
In the opening moto it were de Wolf and Smulders who took a good start. Smulders managed to work himself back up to third in the opening lap and started to put the pressure on Kay de Wolf who was leading the race. It was close racing and after a few laps it was Smulders who took over second position from de Wolf. Straight after this moment there was a red flag situation and because the organisation took a lap before for the classification it was de Wolf who finished second in front of Smulders and Sem Beijer crossed the finish line in seventeenth position.
In the second moto it was Smulders who started in the leading group of riders. In ten minutes time he worked his way up into the lead and was riding a strong second part of the race. He won the race and finished second overall.
Kay de Wolf took the holeshot aboard his Hannamax KTM but due to mistake in the opening lap he dropped back to third position. Kay fought his way back up to second but crashed and finally he had to be satisfied with third position. Sem was riding a great race and worked his way back up from twelfth to tenth position.
Next weekend the Beursfoon KTM team will participate in the final Dutch Open round in Axel on Saturday and on Sunday they are riding the KTM day in Eindhoven.
